When Manchester United hosts Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon, they will be hoping to get off to a good start in the 2022–23 Premier League season.

Malacia has shown some promise as a left-back, but Luke Shaw’s experience—not to mention Martinez’s help—could give him the edge in that specific matchup. McTominay and Fred continue to be the most dependable midfield duo. Even if it shows how much United needs to strengthen that section of the squad before the transfer window closes, they played well together in preseason and should start the season’s first game.
After his preseason displays, the absence of Martial in the attack is a major loss. Although Ronaldo is undoubtedly available, he is unlikely to get the start due to a lack of preseason playing time. Rashford will therefore need to move inside and rely on Sancho and Elanga for assistance.
