Arsenal predicted lineup vs Crystal Palace as injuries dictate Mikel Arteta's starting XI

After finishing the fifth last season, Arsenal wants to go the extra mile to get back into the Champions League. They will have their first chance to make a statement when they play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Friday night to start the new Premier League season.

Gabriel Jesus, a striker who costs £45 million, gives them more ways to score goals, and Oleksandr Zinchenko can play both left back and midfield. Also, they have bought Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos, and Matt Turner, and Eddie Nketiah has signed a new contract.

With a stronger team and choices to make, Mirror Football looks at how Arsenal could line up against Palace in the Premier League opener.

Defence

Mikel Arteta’s defense will look different at the start of the season, and it could stay that way. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney have been recovering from injuries during preseason, but Arsenal now has serious competition and options for both full back positions.

William Saliba has been great during preseason. He has looked elegant and calm, which could make him Gabriel’s regular partner in the middle of the defense. So, Ben White, who is versatile and good with the ball enough to play in different positions, could move to right back in the first few weeks of the season.

Last season’s run-in was rough for Arsenal because both Tomiyasu and Tierney got hurt. Now, they have real back-up and quality in case something goes wrong.

Midfield

Martin Odegaard got better and better last season and is now the captain of Arsenal because of how well he played on the field and how he led and worked hard off it.

He’s humble and down-to-earth, and everyone likes him. He is a very good midfielder who can carry the ball well and keep it safe. He will be in the starting lineup every week, and Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have been playing behind him in the preseason.

All signs point to Arsenal’s midfield being the same as it was last season, but they are still looking for a central player who can play in any area of the field. Youri Tielemans of Leicester is still a possibility, depending on how much the club has to pay out.

Forward line

Gabriel Jesus, the new £45 million centre forward, has been scoring goals and looking sharp in the preseason. Jesus wasn’t guaranteed a spot on Manchester City’s team, but he’s already proving himself at the Emirates, where Arsenal have been scoring goals like crazy in the preseason.

Eddie Nketiah has re-signed with the team. He will get more playing time this season, which will be busy because of the Europa League. But there is also a lot of competition in wide attack areas.

On the right, Bukayo Saka is the first choice, while Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe are fighting for a spot on the left. However, Smith Rowe is likely to miss out due to an injury.

Martinelli will start the season, and new player Fabio Vieira, who cost £30 million, will add to the competition.

Arsenal probable starting XI vs Palace (4-2-3-1): Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Jesus.
